Holy Interruptions

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” – Proverbs 16:9

ree

You made the list. You carved out the schedule. You planned the week down to the hour. And then..

The phone rang.

The child cried.

The email came.

The interruption hit.

It’s frustrating, isn’t it? When life doesn’t follow the plan? When your carefully built routine gets bulldozed by something unexpected?

But what if the interruption isn’t a detour… but an invitation?

Throughout Scripture, we see God interrupt people’s lives to invite them into something greater. Moses was tending sheep when a bush caught fire. Mary was planning a wedding when an angel changed her future. The Samaritan woman was drawing water when Jesus changed her identity.

Each interruption was disruptive. Uncomfortable. Inconvenient. But also divine.

In our world, productivity is idolized. But in God’s Kingdom, availability often matters more than efficiency.

You can have the best intentions, but God's plans will always lead to deeper transformation, not just for you, but for the people around you.

Some of the most powerful kingdom moments come not when everything is running smoothly, but when you're willing to pause and ask: "Lord, is this interruption from You?"

What This Looks Like Today

  • Letting go of control and being open to a shift in your schedule.

  • Choosing to listen instead of rushing past someone’s pain or question.

  • Seeing an unexpected change as an opportunity to grow in patience, compassion, or faith.

  • Asking the Holy Spirit: “Is there someone You want me to see or serve today?”

Prayer

God, interrupt me if it draws me closer to You. Help me welcome the divine in the middle of the unexpected. Teach me to trust Your steps, not just my plans. When things don’t go the way I expect, give me eyes to see what You’re doing instead. Amen.

Reflect & Respond

  • What recent interruption might have been a divine redirection?

  • Is there a place in your life where God might be gently rearranging your plans?
