Peace in the Middle

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” – Isaiah 26:3

Peace isn’t something the world gives freely; it’s something we fight to hold on to. And yet, the Bible tells us that God keeps us in perfect peace when our minds are steadfast. Fixed on Him.
But let’s be honest. There are days when peace feels like a distant dream. The bills are due, the kids are crying, your heart feels tired, and your mind won’t slow down. You're doing your best to love God, but life is loud. What does it mean to experience “perfect peace” when everything around you feels chaotic?
Isaiah 26:3 was written not during peacetime, but in anticipation of judgment and hardship. God's people were being reminded: the anchor of peace is not the situation, it’s the source. Peace isn’t found in the resolution of every issue. It's found in trust. Not in knowing the outcome, but in knowing the One who holds it.
“Steadfast” doesn’t mean never shaken. It means continually returning your gaze to Jesus. When fear pulls your thoughts left and anxiety yanks them right, peace comes by re-centering your soul on who God is, what He’s done, and what He’s promised to do.
In the middle of your hardest day, God isn’t asking you to figure it all out. He’s asking you to look to Him.
What This Looks Like Today
Taking five minutes to breathe and read the Word before replying to that stressful email.
Choosing to speak life over your situation, even if the outcome is still uncertain.
Listening to worship while you clean, pray, or cry on your bathroom floor.
Whispering, “Jesus, I trust you,” even when your emotions disagree.
Peace is not passive. It’s practiced.
Prayer
Father, thank You that You are not a God of confusion or chaos, but of peace. Help me fix my mind on You today. When anxiety rises, pull my heart back to Your Word. When the world gets noisy, let me hear Your still, steady voice saying, “I’m with you.” I choose to trust You in the middle. Amen.
