You're Not Invisible

“She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: ‘You are the God who sees me,’ for she said, ‘I have now seen the One who sees me.’” – Genesis 16:13

Have you ever felt unseen?

Maybe you walk into a room and wonder if anyone notices you. Maybe you give your best every day; to your kids, your job, your ministry. And still feel like no one sees what it costs. Maybe your prayers feel like they hit the ceiling, your efforts feel invisible, and your heart is asking quietly, “Does anyone see me at all?”

In Genesis 16, Hagar, an Egyptian servant girl, is caught in a desperate situation. She’s mistreated, pregnant, and alone in the wilderness. In every way, she’s invisible to those around her. But then, something holy happens.

God shows up.

Not with thunder or lightning. But with a question: “Where have you come from, and where are you going?”

He calls her by name. He tells her what she didn’t even know she needed to hear: that her child has a future, that her life matters, that her pain has been noticed.

And in response, she gives God a name: El Roi, the God who sees me.

There’s something deeply healing about being seen. Not for what you do. Not for how well you perform. But just for who you are. God saw Hagar when no one else did. And He still sees you.

He sees the night you cried yourself to sleep and the smile you gave even when you were exhausted. He sees the prayers you whispered and the pain you didn't post. You are never invisible to Him.

What This Looks Like Today

  • Remembering that God sees your heart even if the world overlooks your effort.

  • Taking comfort in His presence when you feel lonely, unacknowledged, or forgotten.

  • Walking through your day with confidence, not because everyone sees you, but because the One who matters most does.

Prayer

El Roi, the God who sees me, thank You. Thank You for noticing me when I feel invisible, for hearing my cries even when they’re silent, and for reminding me that I matter to You. Help me live today knowing I’m fully seen and deeply loved. Amen.

  • When was the last time you felt unseen, and how did that shape your thoughts?

  • Ask God to remind you that you are not invisible to Him.
